Written for the rarescale Kingma Ensemble (Carla Rees, Sophie Hooper and Gavin Stewart) in 2025 and first performed at Nottingham Contemporary on 26 April 2026.

Spoken in the Marsh is a reflection of the swamp and in particular the wide range and variety of sounds frogs create around the world.

The work quotes the sound of the frogs as written by Aristophanes in his comic work for theatre “The Frogs”. The work was also inspired by ancient Greek music and philosophy.
