Davood Jafari - Dawn Chorus

Dawn Chorus is a composition for a flute trio comprised of soprano, alto, and bass flute. Two of these flutes are Kingma System instruments, enabling the accurate performance of microtones. The primary melodic framework of this piece is constructed from the synthesis of conjunct Persian musical tetrachords. This approach extends beyond the conventional utilisation of Persian tetrachords in two key ways. Firstly, I have combined existing tetrachords that are not typically employed in tandem. Secondly, I have devised novel tetrachords that, while not found within the traditional Persian repertoire, adhere to the established intervallic relationships of Persian music.

Dawn Chorus is dedicated to Dr. Carla Rees
