Katrina Emtage - Riverumba
Katrina Emtage - Riverumba

This piece was written in January 2013 for the flute ensemble CAFE (Cork Adult Flute Ensemble) in Cork, Ireland and first performed in Bandon, Co. Cork.

It uses simple pentatonic motifs to build a layered texture contrasting rumba rhythms with flowing, tightly interwoven lines.

Difficulty: Accessible to players of about Grade 5 upwards.

We also experimented with adding guitar and percussion ad. lib. (improvising) This could be used to add in non-flute players in the context of a school or community performance.

Scored for:
Flute/Piccolo
3 flutes
alto
bass
