Born in Germany in 1983, Rahsan Izmirli Oguz is a composer, flautist, and music theorist whose work moves with ease between concert repertoire, the stage, and the screen. She began her musical training in 1990 with piano, mandolin, and the cura, later continuing her flute studies at Mersin University State Conservatory, where she also pursued composition under Prof. Aydin Azimov. A firm grounding in harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, form, and music history—shaped alongside practical instrumental experience—underpins the minimal yet vividly colour-attentive character of her writing.

In 2005 she transferred to the Composition Department of Istanbul University State Conservatory, deepening her work in composition while further developing score reading and piano. She completed her master’s degree in 2010 with a thesis entitled The Role of Ethnic Music and Instruments in the Development of Universal Music, reflecting a lasting interest in the dialogue between local timbres and broader compositional languages. Alongside her compositional output, she has pursued an active teaching career; since 2019 she has taught music theory at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts.

Her catalogue includes incidental music for theatre—most notably for Haldun Taner’s Gözlerimi Kaparim Vazifemi Yaparim—as well as animation and film music. Her score for Kenan Korkmaz’s feature Gittiler: Poet and Unknown (2014) brought broader international visibility. Uyanis (Revival) evokes humanity’s awakening mind and an archaic “birth into being human” as metaphor. Her works and arrangements have been performed at major flute festivals in Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, and the United States.
