Cerys is inspired by a jazz teacher who had a profound influence on me in 2018. Exceptionally creative, witty, and effortlessly cool, as a drummer they possessed a formidable sense of rhythm.

The work develops from a central riff, whose moody, syncopated character reflects their laid-back yet distinctive personality. The melody, deliberately without vibrato, evokes an electronic, synth-like timbre. Layers of the flute choir enter progressively, each defined by its own syncopated motif. Growing in waves, it builds in intensity towards a powerful, climactic return of the original motif near the end. The piece may be performed with or without shuffle-like drums.

Cerys now performs with the band Kogg, creating genre-defying sound worlds at the intersection of experimental electronica, contemporary composition, and creative invention.
