Sarah Westwood

Sarah Westwood (UK) writes acoustic and electronic music. She is event co-ordinator and guest artist for Estalagem da Ponta do Sol Residency for Contemporary Music and Electronics Madeira since 2017 and is a composer-in-residence for Illuminate Women's Music 2019.

Sarah is drawn toward memory and intuition as a source for her music, and collaborates in dance, video, theatre, installation, as well as composing concert works. Collaborators include Eleven Farrer House (dance), LA based Moses Hacmon (artist/architect) and Georgie Lorimer (poet).

Her work has been received in venues/ festivals including St John Smith's Square, Southbank Centre, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Electric Lodge LA, Echofluxx Prague, Wheaties Adelaide, Petite Cabinet Strasbourg, Borough New Music and Wolstonbury Hill (National Trust). Performances include by Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, L'imaginaire Musiques d'Idées, Okeanos, Onix Ensamble Mexico, Heather Roche, Valerie Wellbanks, Patrick Dawkins, Dan Thorpe, Karin Hellqvist, Xenia Pestova and Carla Rees.

In 2015 she was awarded the Bliss Trust Scholarship to USA, where she studied with Katharina Rosenberger at UCSD. Currently, Sarah is pursuing a practice-based research doctorate at Goldsmiths, University of London, with mentors Lauren Redhead, Holly Rogers and Patricia Alessandrini. She has been on residencies including the inaugural Choreographer’s and Composer’s Lab (Phoenix Dance Theatre), a residency in the Pyrenees with Apartment House, as well as participating in InVivo Danse (Ircam Academy) and the Cheltenham Festival’s Composers Academy.
