Mathieu Robert was born in Paris and raised in Rome. At 18 he moved to London to pursue studies in popular music and electric guitar performance. After graduating from the Institute of Contemporary Music and Performance with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance, Mathieu went on to play bass guitar in several bands; most notable were the singers Rosie Bow, ARUN and the band Meat Loving Vegans, a jazz-punk fusion outfit.

During that time, Mathieu taught himself classical music theory and began writing his first compositions, pressing his fellow band members into performing them at the Cabaret Futura.

After studying independently under composers Paul Sarcich and Edward Henderson of Bastard Assignments, Mathieu completed his Master of Arts in Composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance under the tutoring of Gwyn Pritchard. Since graduating he has written for renowned viola soloist Rivka Golani as well as several Trinity Laban students. He has also written soundtracks for award winning independent film-makers.

His works have been performed at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel and Blackheath Halls in London as well as in Tortosa, Spain at the Proto Fest music festival.

Mathieu’s music brings together influences of Gamelan music and the Germanic tradition, focusing on the expressive potential of the human voice and the instruments in order to bring forth embodiments of the human condition and its attendant emotions.
