Lauren Redhead - 12 Fragments for Transverse Flute

12 Fragments for Transverse Flute (2018) - Lauren Redhead

12 Fragments for Transverse Flute is a piece suitable for any flute (at any pitch, and with or without keys). The piece presents the performer with different levels of difficulty and impossibility depending on their instrument, creating instability around a central hexachord which is heard in the first fragment. As the piece continues, this hexachord is transformed by and against the unstable decoration that surrounds it. The music was originally written for Carla Rees to perform on the baroque flute, but also with the consideration that it should be suitable for any of the large number of flutes that she plays.

Premiere: Carla Rees, New Baroque, Iklectik, London 7 June 2018
