Edward Clijsen - Geïsoleerd
Meaning Isolated in Dutch, Geïsoleerd represents an exploration of methods for intuitive utilisation of microtonally-informed extended techniques on the Kingma System alto flute, to provide insight on the location of new affective potentials. The original version of this piece, unimaginatively entitled Étude 19.02.24, represented a preliminary practical exploration of a formalised approach to microtonal composition and provided insight into intuitive methods for microtonal melodic construction and the development of generative processes for formal organisations of affect-informed selections of paradigmatically related groups of notes. Geïsoleerd, therefore, characterises an early stage of development in an evolving microtonal practice, encompassed within the research project ‘Redividing the Octave for Expanded Tonal Spaces’.
